The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, began his extensive work programme in New York on Monday, by taking part in the summit devoted to the debate on sustainable development goals.  

This high-level UN meeting precedes the opening today of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, which will last until 26 September. 

President João Lourenço spoke in his capacity as President of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, said on Wednesday in Madrid city, Spain, that the Angolan government invests, annually, about USD 25 million in the purchase of vaccines, in the framework of the routine vaccination program.

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, when speaking at the ceremony to present greetings from the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola, pointed out the war in Ukraine as "a serious threat to the peace and security" of Europe and the world, causing the biggest energy, food and humanitarian crisis since World War II.
"We urge the establishment of a definitive and unconditional ceasefire by Russia, in order to create the necessary negotiating environment between the parties involved, leading to the construction of a solid and lasting peace on that continent," he stressed. Read more: Speech attached.
