1st Internet Governance Forum in Angola
Internet governance is essential to ensure that the Internet continues to be a valuable tool for humanity, promoting economic development, freedom of expression and global collaboration.
In terms of format, in addition to the agenda of debate topics that will take place throughout the day, we are also proposing the creation of an award for the best Angolan company that develops its business in the Internet universe.
The creation of an internet governance forum in Angola is justified by the importance of the internet in modern society, with benefits ranging from economic development to the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms.
Public and private organisations are sponsoring this event. Firstly, we have the institutional support of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication.

Message from His Excellency João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and African Champion for Peace and Reconciliation.
MESSAGE FROM HIS EXCELLENCY JOÃO LOURENÇO, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ANGOLA AND CHAMPION OF THE AFRICAN UNION FOR PEACE AND RECONCILIATION IN AFRICA, ON THE OCCASION OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL DEDICATED TO THE "DAY OF PEACE AND RECONCILIATION IN AFRICA"
LUANDA, 31 JANUARY 2024
African sisters and brothers,
Today, 31 January 2024, our continent celebrates the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa for the second time.
This is a very important date, which urges us to reflect on the journey we have made so far and on the road that remains to be travelled in the quest to achieve the great goals of peace, stability and reconciliation on the African continent.
In May 2022, in Malabo, I was appointed by the African Union as Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, and since then I have dedicated myself with greater commitment to resolving the conflict in the east of the DRC, as well as contributing to the normalization of political and diplomatic relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda.
In exercising these responsibilities, I have been committed to finding peaceful solutions to the different conflicts that persist in various regions of the continent, constantly encouraging dialogue and promoting political consultation as a way of strengthening trust and building understanding between the parties at odds.
On this date, I would like to emphasize the great importance for all Africans, and especially for young people, of initiatives that lead to the construction of a culture of peace and lean towards preventive diplomacy, as irreplaceable vectors for conflict prevention on our continent.
It is in this spirit that the Republic of Angola endeavors to make its best contribution to building a culture of peace by hosting the "Luanda Biennial" Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence every two years, as part of a partnership established between the Angolan government, the African Union and UNESCO.
At the end of last year, the third edition of this forum was held in Luanda, with the participation of Heads of State and Government, political entities at different levels and personalities from different branches of the social, political and cultural life of our countries, to jointly address issues relating to the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence in Africa.
We have no other options but to build peace, security and stability, to take care of the enormous task of creating human and material conditions in order to promote economic development and improve the living conditions of our populations.
African Sisters and Brothers
It is with deep concern that we note the growing number of outbreaks of tension and intense conflicts on our continent, such as the war in Sudan and the coups d'état in West and Central Africa, which have torn human lives apart and wreaked havoc on the social and material structure of the societies and families where these disputes occur, and created instability in neighboring countries and on the continent in general.
Governments, political parties, civil society organizations and African citizens in general are all called upon to contribute to harmony, understanding and healthy coexistence between peoples and nations, with the goal of building a united Africa, at peace and dedicated to progress and development.
As Champion of the African Union for Peace and National Reconciliation, I will always work to find solutions that lead to the achievement and preservation of peace, national reconciliation, democracy and respect for human rights on our continent.
Allow me to express to all African sisters and brothers my confidence in a promising future of full recovery of the dignity of the peoples of Africa, of prosperity and progress.
I wish you all a happy Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.
Long live Africa.!
